Playa Zancudo Costa Rica attracts a younger crowd made up of backpackers, surfers, and professional beach combers who seek out good food at low prices and lots of relaxed good times. One of the most remote beach getaways in the entire country, Playa Zancudo is not necessarily a gourmet mecca, but the dining there is satisfying, inexpensive, and delicious.
Known for its calm waters and spectacular sunsets, Playa Zancudo Costa Rica is relaxation at its best, a great place to enjoy a drink while watching the sun go down over the Golfo Dulce. Sol y Mar is definitely the best and most popular place to do that. Easily the nicest restaurant in Play Zancudo Costa Rica, Sol y Mar (Sun and Sea) serves up delicious fresh seafood at budget prices. The catch of the day can be ordered grilled with lemon, or enjoyed in a rich Veracruz or exotic homemade coconut curry sauce.
Sol y Mar also offers delicious thick cut broiled pork chops in teriyaki sauce, and fresh seared tuna. Thursday Thai nights draw adventurous diners, and the breakfasts are especially hearty. The breakfast burrito alone is large enough to count for two meals—a good choice at the start of an active day.
If deciding where to eat gets to be too stressful, Oasis on the Beach offers familiar wood fired pizzas that are very good and very affordable, and daily specials at bargain rates. Resaturante Macondo and Alberto’s Puerta Negra serve excellent Italian food, including old favorites like spaghetti and lasagna.
For travelers interested in trying out local cuisine, Soda Sussy and Soda Katherine offer traditional Tico fare at unbelievably low prices. At either restaurant, visitors can meet some of the Playa Zancudo Costa Rica permanent residents while enjoying filling Costa Rican food at a leisurely pace.
For a decent breakfast or midday ice cream, check out the little open-air café at Oceanos Cabinas. The atmosphere is super casual and the best time to eat is when you are hungry, so let your hair down and relax. Since the beach at Playa Zancudo is protected on three sides, the water is unusually calm and great for swimming, so quick access to good snacks is a real perk.
When it comes to nightlife in Playa Zancudo Costa Rica, a few bars and a disco do stay open, but most fans of the area prefer to spend their evenings hanging around their hotel or by the water, reading, or playing board games. A great place to meet new people, hanging out at any of the local cabinas or hotels is sure to net some new friends.
Often, during the height of the competitive fishing season in mid-February, major musical attractions are booked at Playa Zancudo Costa Rica as entertainment for the competitors and spectators alike, so check ahead of time to see if a concert is in the works.
