Playa Del Coco Costa Rica offers excellent swimming and sunning, an array of clean inexpensive lodgings, loud popular music, and cheap filling food and drink. One of the first of the Guanacaste Playas to be developed, Play Del Coco Costa Rica continues to attract vacationing ticos and visiting bargain hunters alike.
The small town of Playa Del Coco Costa Rica hugs the Pacific Ocean, with most of the many local hotels facing the beach. Today Costa Rica’s beaches are many and varied, but this bargain pioneer still boasts a loyal following.
Playa Del Coco Costa Rica may not be the best place for a quiet getaway, however. The vibe is definitely boisterous and the crowd is young. Cocomar, located just off the little park on the beach, offers disco dancing into the wee hours every night, and you’ll find plenty of ex-pats to chat with at El Bohio Bar and Yacht Club. Sometimes you can catch a televised football game there.
The Lizard Lounge sports a tropical ambiance and a popular pool table, and the second floor Banana Surf Bar serves good appetizers.
The beach at Playa Del Coco Costa Rica is huge at low tide and nonexistent at high tide, so you’ll want to get your sunning and swimming in between these two extremes. Scuba diving, snorkeling, and sport fishing are the main attractions here.
Surfing is not an option at Play Del Coco Costa Rica, but any sport fishing boat will happily take you to Witches Rock or Ollie’s point up in Santa Rosa National Park if you need to catch some waves.
Boats must have a permit to be cleared to enter Santa Rosa Park territory, so be sure to ask your boat captain if he is licensed for such an excursion. You will also have to pay the $6 entrance fee in order to surf at park locations.
Soccer is also big in Playa Del Coco Costa Rica. The soccer field is located in the center of town, and visiting ticos and locals routinely start up informal soccer matches. You may be able to join in if you are interested. Just ask at your hotel’s front desk if you want to arrange this.
Horseback riding excursions are also available in and around Playa Del Coco Costa Rica, and can be booked at any hotel.
If pampering is what you need, head for the Fusion Natural Spa, located in the hills above Playa Ocatal. Fusion offers a wide range of massage and spa treatments which run from $40 to $90 each, or you can choose to stay for a day or several and just unwind.
For the best food in town, head for Chef Bob’s Louisiana Bar and Grill and sample one of the Cajun specialties. Ask for a table on the balcony overlooking the main street.
Playa Del Coco might not be the most posh beach in Costa Rica, but it remains one of the most popular. A great bargain, you are sure to have a great time here and make some new friends while you play.
