Liberia Costa Rica is best known as a stopover on the way to the fabulous beaches of Guanacaste province and the nearby national parks, so dining here is easy and relaxing, and travelers who make Liberia Costa Rica their base for explorations will find plenty of affordable filling fare. Gourmets, homesick kids, and hearty eaters will all find something to love in Liberia.
One of the most popular dining options in Liberia Costa Rica is the small but cozy French-style bistro and coffee shop called El Café. Pick up a quick lunch or pastry and a strong coffee on the way to a hike around Santa Rosa National Park, or just relax for a long lazy morning over a favorite latte or cappuccino.
Pizza in Liberia Costa Rica is surprisingly authentic and delicious, and hungry families have several choices of pies. Pizzeria Pronto, located just one block north of visitor center, and Pizzeria da Beppe, located just off the highway that leads into central Liberia both offer a wide variety of pizzas, sandwiches, and salads at reasonable prices.
If a heartier meal is in order, check out Steakhouse la Tablita on the other side of Liberia Costa Rica, just off the road from La Espuelas. Thick steaks and other cuts of fresh meat are broiled to order and served with traditional sides to satisfy even the biggest appetite. Steakhouse la Tablita is a great choice after a long day touring the surrounding countryside or a vigorous afternoon surfing at one of the local beaches.
Restaurant Paseo Real, located right on the central square, is considered to be one of the best local sodas in Liberia Costa Rica. Here travelers can order traditional Costa Rican fare at bargain prices.
If picky kids who miss the familiar are an issue, Liberia Costa Rica even has a Burger King and a Papa John’s located in a small shopping complex at the main intersection of the road that leads to the beaches and the Interamerican Highway. More familiar fast food choices can be found at the food court of the mall on the southern outskirts of town.
For fine dining in Liberia Costa Rica, the place to go is Restaurant Rincon Corobici, set on the banks of the Corobici River. Whole fried local fish is the specialty of the house, but steaks, shrimp, chops, sandwiches, and lamb dishes on the menu are all quite tasty.
The best tables at Restaurant Rincon Corobici are on the wooden deck overlooking the river. Although all the tables are nice and offer a good view, the sound of rushing water that accompanies the tables on the deck makes for an especially peaceful, memorable dining experience. Be sure to try the fried yucca chips as an appetizer or a side—they outshine French fries any day!
